How to install RSAT(dsa.msc) in windows 10 – step by step

Install RSAT in windows 10 . RSAT (Remote Server Administration Tool) is a windows component used for remote management of roles & features running on other servers. It uses snap-in and command line tool for domain management, Hyper-v management, cluster management.

RSAT acts in the same way as it performs in the remote server. Installation of RSAT is supported in both server OS and client OS by GUI method & PowerShell. In windows 10, RSAT can be installed only on Professional, Enterprise and Education versions.

During the upgrade process of windows 10 (til the windows 10 1803 version upgrade), RSAT installed in earlier version cannot persists after upgrade process. This issue happened for every up-gradation because the ‘RSAT.msu’ was provided as windows update package. To overcome this issue, Microsoft changed the RSAT installation process starting from windows version 1809 as ‘Features on demand’. RSAT installed as feature on demand will persists even after windows 10 upgrades.

RSAT installation in windows 10 version 1803 or earlier:
Download RSAT tool for earlier versions

Download RSAT package (KB2693643) from the download link and run the file. Click ‘Yes’ when prompted.
Read the license terms and click ‘I Agree’
Now the package will start installing and after the successful installation, RSAT tools will be available in your windows 10 machine.
To uninstall RSAT, go to ‘Programs and features’ -> ‘View installed updates’ and select KB2693643 to uninstall.

RSAT installation in windows 10 version 1809 or later :

Starting from Windows 10 version 1809, RSAT is available as ‘Features on Demand’. To install, go to ‘settings‘ -> ‘Apps’
In Apps & Features, click on ‘Manage optional features’
Click on ‘Add a Feature’ and it will provides the list of features including RSAT tools.
Select the required RSAT tool and click ‘Install‘. To install AD management tool (dsa.msc), click on ‘RSAT: ADDS and LDST’.
Installation of ‘RSAT: ADDS and LDST’ will initiate in ‘Manage optional features page’ and completes in a minute based on our internet connectivity.
To uninstall the RSAT tool, select the respective tool and click ‘Uninstall’
